Today was the first time we tried to add some wean asf to the grow out tubs ( I separate females from males ) and it was a bit sketchy, there was fighting and shit. We didnt let them fight, but now im wondering how people do to add weans to their grow out tub ( and is it good practice not to separate sexes ) ?

Iv never had fighting with my grow out tubs and weaned I’ve also done colony breeding usually I pull out pregnant females and keel them alone but sometimes I miss a pregnant one and the lay in the colony setting and alls good really once my mom rats alone with their babies are good to stop feeding I put weans in grow out with a few other smaller sizes male and female and never had a issue yet.

I dont do ASFs anymore. I tried a small colony, they chewed through anything and everything. I had to wrap my water lines with maple syrup mixed with honey mixed with rat poison, two coats of black electrical tape, one coat of aluminum foil, one coat of aluminum duct tape and then coated in Franks red hot sauce on the outside. That didnt work. I resorted to wrapping ever peice of water tubing with metal bailing wire, coating it with electrical tape, then turning the electrical tape around with sticky side up, wrapping them all with that, coating them with maple syrup honey rat poison mixture and then putting ducting foil over that to finally get rid of my ASF problem. That was 7 years ago. Now i have 42 tubs of rats and not one problem. When i see an ASF feeder on MM, even if its one I really want , im just like next.

That’s how I keep mine for now not chewing three nothing been in there for at least two months I had to put screws all around the screen cause they chew threw lid if not but inside of tubs there’s nothing for them to get their feet on! I feed them inside tubs and on top of the screen! Then take pregos and put them in a outer tub to raise

And my lid and put water bottle on top and grow outs I found a water bother they don’t chew threw!

I’m sure they can when bigger but it’s made for gerbil or hamster I think for inside cages holds food to! Sorry for all the pics not the best set up but I’m always trying to improve I like 2 liter bottles eithe the caps for the other ones.
