9/10 hatchling western hognoses fed in their first week of life? Not too shabby ~ 😎
Weekly Update ~
In case you missed our recent barrage of pictures, our nursery is full of hatchling hognose snakes and ball pythons!
We're working on getting the hognose hatchlings started on our "home-grown" frozen/thawed pinky mice and have seen success so far! The ball python hatchlings will be offered their first meals after they get around to shedding. Once they're eating consistently, the hatchlings will be posted onto MorphMarket, so stay tuned!
Our next and likely last clutch of snakes of the 2022-2023 season is due to hatch mid-August (black head leopard lesser pinstripe het hypo+ x pastel GHI calico). We plan to publish the 2023-2024 season breeding plan soon!
Lastly, the rodents were treated to frozen celery and banana this week as well as segments of paper towel tubes for enrichment. We've started a bin of female holdbacks from our most sociable female rat, a blue agouti named Athena, and our male rat with the best conformation, a dumbo self-black silvermane named Buck. We are also starting temperament-testing on their sons to select our next breeding male for our self-black clans. It's so exciting to see the fruits of our hard work over the past couple years, but we're always working towards improvement.

For those that know all the crazy gene names, I THINK we have pastel lesser pinstripe enchi black head (damn), black head pinstripe enchi, black head enchi, pinstripe, and pastel. All of these are 50% het hypo.
Of course, nothing definitive until they've had their first shed and I cross reference them to the community to make sure I get the most accurate ID possible. I may also keep that mostly-white snake back to shed test for het hypo.
Caduceus (black head leopard lesser pinstripe het hypo) x Dierdre (pastel enchi) has arrived! Five out of five eggs hatched out into beautiful babies.
We'll restrain from giving their morphs until all of them have shed, but there are some gorgeous hatchlings in the pile of spaghetti pictured.

Weekly Update ~ 🖤
❄️ The Orange Tea clutch has hit! All 10 eggs have pipped and some are already out and slithering around! They're a gorgeous group of 100% het snows with five supercondas that we can see so far. We're also seeing some signs of arctic, which was very unexpected... on closer inspection, it seems like the father is most likely an arctic! We never planned to work with this very subtle gene, but we'll take it!

🥦🍓🍉🫑🐀 The rodent colony got to feast on watermelon, honeydew, sweet peppers, broccoli, salad greens and strawberries this past week, which was thoroughly enjoyed! We're starting our next round of breeding to further prepare for the onslaught of hatchlings coming in July. Again, we wont be releasing our rodents as pets until we complete this year's disease testing through Charles River. We'll let you all know once the results come in!
